My passion for travel and different cultures influenced me to go on an AIESEC exchange. I have always loved the act of interacting with others and getting to know people. I think that by getting to know different cultures, it shapes us to be more globally aware. AIESEC exchange was the perfect avenue in order to do that and by talking to previous exchange participants, I knew it was right for me.
I think the biggest change I have seen in myself is definitely patience. As an English teacher, it can be a challenge because of the language barrier in the classroom. Although outside the classroom, I am at a disadvantage and I was able to appreciate the genuine patience people showed me. This act of genuine patience translated into my classroom to turn the student-teacher relationship into a patient friendship relationship. I think the most rewarding thing is seeing the improvement and the confidence my students get. I have a “proud mom” moment and that is an irreplaceable feeling, to know you have helped someone.
