How Can We Create a Better Future?

If you’ve looked at the news over the past few months, you’ve probably noticed the state that the world is currently in. Climate change, humanitarian issues and damage to wildlife are some of the key issues we are facing now and into the future. So, to answer the question in the title, the answer is simple. A better future is a sustainable future. To combat those issues, the United Nations has introduced the Sustainable Development Goals initiative where countries aim to make a global commitment to reducing or solving key issues that people all across the world face.

You may ask why is this important? The initiative sets an agenda for the world to follow. We all have ideas on how we want to solve the world’s problems but with one guiding voice on what the world should achieve allows countries to shape the future for the better. Member countries are committed to the initiative and work towards the intertwined goals like reduced hunger, poverty and so on. The UN also sets milestones to track progress and ensure that the countries are on track to reach the ultimate goal by 2030.

By setting the agenda, countries can work towards those goals with definitive strategies and goals in mind. It takes a lot of collaboration and dedication among the countries to commit to these initiatives but it is a step in the right direction for the world to follow and solve these issues. I’ve briefly touched on how the UN plans to address these issues but there are many more components to the overall plan such as global economic forums to generate ideas.
