Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does “AIESEC” stand for?

“AIESEC” was formerly a French acronym for “Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales” (translates to: International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences). Today, we no longer use this name as an abbreviation, as our membership has grown to encompass a much wider range of disciplines than only economics and commerce – we are simply AIESEC.

2. What countries is AIESEC in?

AIESEC is currently present in 110 countries, and constantly expanding to more and more countries everyday. To find out whether or not AIESEC is in a specific country or region, please contact our office, or go to the AIESEC International page for an updated listing.

3. I’m a student at a post-secondary institution other than the University of Windsor. Can I still join or go on an internship?

Yes! The only requirement to join AIESEC Windsor is that you are either currently enrolled as a student or are a recent (up to 2 years) graduate of a post-secondary institution.

4. I am not a business/commerce student, can I still join?

Absolutely! Although AIESEC Windsor is an official School of Business student group, our local and international opportunities are available to students from any faculty.

5. What is the best way for me to find out more about AIESEC?

Attend one of our information sessions! These are generally held in September and January of each year. If you’ve missed an info session, you can drop by our office during the day to talk to one of our executive members. If you are still having trouble catching one of us, please visit our calendar or contact our office to set up a meeting.

OFFICE: Odette School of Business, Suite 333

6. I keep hearing about conferences, what are they all about?

Conferences are a special opportunity for members to network with each other and with leaders in the corporate community, learn about relevant issues to increase their global awareness, and gain in-depth leadership and AIESEC-specific training. Conferences include: Ontario Atlantic Regional Conference, National Congress, and National Leadership Development Conference.

7. When are AIESEC’s meetings?

We hold a General Meeting every month with the dates provided on our calendar. Members that are unable to attend a General Assembly are expected to contact our VP of Talent Management prior to the date of the meeting with their reason for absence. As well, each portfolio holds weekly meetings for their members, which are arranged by the respective VP depending on member availabily.

8. How do I gain membership to the committee?

During September, January and April, our local committee recruits for new members. To gain membership, all you have to do is fill out our online application form and wait for a representative to contact you about membership. If you apply during a month that the committee is NOT recruiting, your contact will just let you know when to re-apply to the committee!
